8 oz spaghetti or your preferred pasta

4 tbsp unsalted butter

4 cloves garlic, finely chopped

1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1/4 cup fresh parsley, finely chopped

Salt and pepper to taste

Zest of 1 lemon (optional)

Lemon wedges for serving

Cook the Pasta: In a large saucepan, bring salted water to a rapid boil. Add the spaghetti and prepare it according to the package directions until it is al dente. Set aside 1/2 cup of the pasta water, then drain the spaghetti and keep it aside.

    Make the Garlic Butter: In the same saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. After it's melted, include the minced garlic and red pepper flakes if you chose to use them. Sauté for about 2 minutes, stirring often, until the garlic releases its aroma and becomes a light golden hue.

      Combine Ingredients: Return the cooked pasta to the pot with the garlic butter. Toss everything together, making sure all the pasta is evenly coated. If the mixture appears dry, gradually mix in some of the reserved pasta water until you achieve your preferred consistency.

        Add Flavor: Stir in the grated Parmesan cheese and the chopped parsley. Mix thoroughly and season with salt, pepper, and lemon zest, if you wish.
