Ingredients

For the dough:

4 cups all-purpose flour, plus extra for dusting

1/4 cup granulated sugar

2 1/4 teaspoons (1 packet) active dry yeast

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1 cup warm milk (about 110°F/43°C)

1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

2 large eggs

For the apple filling:

2 medium-sized apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, and diced

1/4 cup brown sugar

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1 tablespoon lemon juice

1 tablespoon butter, melted

For the glaze:

1 cup powdered sugar

2-3 tablespoons milk

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

Prepare the dough:

In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm milk, granulated sugar, and active dry yeast. Stir lightly to mix, and allow it to rest for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy and bubbly. This indicates that the yeast is active.

      Mix dry ingredients:

In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, salt, and ground cinnamon until well combined.

          Combine wet ingredients:

To the yeast mixture, add the melted butter and eggs. Mix thoroughly. Gradually incorporate the dry ingredient mixture into the wet mixture, stirring until a dough forms.

              Knead the dough:

Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface. Knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes, until it becomes smooth and elastic. Place the kneaded dough into a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm location for approximately 1 hour or until it has doubled in size.

                  Prepare the apple filling:

In a medium bowl, combine the diced apples, brown sugar, ground cinnamon, lemon juice, and melted butter. Mix thoroughly to ensure the apples are well-coated, and set aside.

                      Shape the wreath:

Once the dough has risen, punch it down gently to release any trapped air. Roll the dough out on a floured surface into a large rectangle (approximately 12x18 inches). Evenly spread the apple filling over the dough. Starting from one long edge, tightly roll the dough into a log.

                          Create the wreath shape:

Pinch the ends of the log together to seal it. Transfer the log onto a greased baking sheet and shape it into a circular wreath by slightly twisting the dough. Pinch the ends together again to ensure they are sealed.

                              Let it rise again:

Cover the wreath with a kitchen towel and allow it to rise for another 30 minutes at room temperature.

                                  Preheat the oven:

As the wreath is rising, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for baking.

                                      Bake:

Once risen, place the wreath in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until it is golden brown and fully cooked through. If the top browns too quickly, lightly cover it with aluminum foil.

                                          Prepare the glaze:

While the wreath is baking, in a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until the mixture is smooth. If you prefer a thinner glaze, add additional milk as needed.

                                              Glaze and serve:

After baking, remove the wreath from the oven and allow it to cool for about 10 minutes. Drizzle the prepared glaze generously over the warm wreath, letting it set for a few moments before slicing and serving.

Enjoy your Apple Cinnamon Bread Wreath warm, ideally paired with a cup of tea or coffee for a delightful treat!
