Ingredients

12 oz ziti pasta

2 cups marinara sauce (store-bought or homemade)

1 cup ricotta cheese

1 large egg

2 cups fresh spinach, finely chopped

2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

Salt and pepper, to taste

Fresh basil leaves (for garnish, optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Begin by preheating your oven to 375°F (190°C) to ensure it's hot and ready for baking.

Cook the Pasta: In a large pot, bring a generous amount of salted water to a rolling boil. Add the ziti pasta and cook according to the package instructions until al dente, which typically takes about 8-10 minutes. Once done, drain the pasta and set aside.

Prepare the Spinach Mixture: In a medium-sized bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, finely chopped spinach, egg, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, and a sprinkle of salt and pepper. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are well incorporated and the mixture is creamy.

Combine Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked ziti pasta with the marinara sauce. Add the spinach mixture and half of the shredded mozzarella cheese, stirring gently to ensure everything is evenly coated.

Layer the Dish: Lightly grease a 9x13 inch baking dish. Spread half of the ziti mixture evenly across the bottom of the dish. Sprinkle half of the grated Parmesan cheese on top. Next, layer the remaining ziti mixture and finish with the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses, creating a cheesy topping.

Bake: Cover the baking dish tightly with aluminum foil. To prevent sticking, consider spraying the foil with a little non-stick cooking spray before covering the dish. Place it in the preheated oven and bake for 25 minutes. After 25 minutes, carefully remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.

Garnish and Serve: Once baked, allow the ziti to cool for about 5 minutes before serving. For a fresh, aromatic touch, garnish with freshly torn basil leaves.

                Prep Time: 15 minutes | Total Time: 50 minutes | Servings: 6-8

                  - Presentation Tips: Serve the baked ziti directly from the dish for a rustic feel. For an elegant touch, you can plate individual portions and drizzle with a bit of extra marinara sauce. Add a sprinkle of extra Parmesan on top for added flavor and visual appeal.
