Ingredients

8 slices of artisanal bread (sourdough or whole grain preferred)

1 cup fig jam

8 oz goat cheese (softened)

4 oz prosciutto or thinly sliced ham

1 cup fresh arugula

2 tbsp balsamic glaze

2 tbsp unsalted butter (softened)

Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

Prepare the Bread: Begin by evenly spreading a thin layer of softened unsalted butter on one side of each slice of bread. This will create a deliciously crispy exterior when grilled.

Assemble the Sandwich: On the unbuttered side of 4 slices of bread, generously spread the fig jam. Next, layer the softened goat cheese on top of the jam. Follow with the slices of prosciutto or ham, ensuring they cover the cheese evenly. Finally, add a handful of fresh arugula for a peppery crunch.

Top it Off: Complete the sandwiches by placing the remaining 4 slices of bread on top of the filled ones. Make sure that the buttered side is facing outward on both sides.

Grill: Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat. Once hot, carefully place the assembled sandwiches onto the skillet, pressing down slightly using a spatula for even grilling. Cook for about 3-4 minutes until the bottom slice is golden brown. Flip the sandwiches carefully and grill the other side for an additional 3-4 minutes until both sides are golden and the cheese begins to melt.

Drizzle and Serve: After grilling, remove the sandwiches from the skillet and place them on a cutting board. Drizzle balsamic glaze over the top for a delicious sweet and tangy finish. Optionally, sprinkle with a little salt and freshly cracked pepper to enhance flavors.

Cut and Enjoy: Slice each sandwich in half diagonally and serve warm. Relish the delightful combination of sweet fig jam, creamy goat cheese, savory prosciutto, and crisp arugula in every delicious bite!
