Ingredients

2 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced

3 tablespoons granulated sugar

1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice

1/2 cup heavy whipping cream

1/4 cup powdered sugar

1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

1 store-bought pound cake or homemade sponge cake, cut into 1-inch cubes

1 cup vanilla yogurt (optional, for added creaminess)

Fresh mint leaves for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Prepare the Strawberries: In a medium mixing bowl, combine the sliced strawberries with granulated sugar and fresh lemon juice. Gently toss the ingredients together until the strawberries are evenly coated. Allow the mixture to sit for 15-20 minutes, which will enable the strawberries to macerate and release their sweet juices.

Whip the Cream: In a separate clean mixing bowl, pour in the heavy whipping cream. Using an electric mixer, beat the cream on medium speed until it begins to thicken. Gradually add in the powdered sugar and pure vanilla extract, and continue to whip until stiff peaks form – be cautious not to over-whip the cream to avoid it turning butter-like.

Assemble the Trifles: Choose your serving glasses or a large trifle bowl, and start by placing a third of the pound cake cubes at the bottom. Spoon a portion of the macerated strawberries over the cake cubes, followed by a generous layer of whipped cream. If you're opting for extra creaminess, include a layer of vanilla yogurt at this stage.

Repeat Layers: Continue layering with the remaining ingredients in the same order: cake, strawberries, whipped cream, and yogurt (if using). Repeat this layering process until you reach the top of your glasses or bowl, finishing off with a dollop of whipped cream and a few slices of strawberries for decoration.

Garnish: For an elegant touch, you can garnish each trifle with fresh mint leaves, which will add vibrant color and a refreshing flavor.

Chill and Serve: Cover the assembled trifles and refrigerate them for at least 30 minutes before serving. This chilling time will allow all the flavors to meld beautifully. Serve chilled and relish the deliciousness!
